About the BandThe Monaghan Pipe Band is one of the oldest pipe bands in the United States tracing its origins back to 1929. The Band's mission is to promote the public appreciation of pipe band music through performance, competition, and the continuous development of skills. The Band endeavors to play bagpipes and drums at a high level through rigorous and regular practice and professional instruction. The Band also has an active, ongoing educational program providing tuition in all facets of bagpiping and drumming. The Monaghan Pipe Band is a New York State incorporated and IRS recognized tax exempt, not for profit organization.The Band and the CommunityThe Monaghan Pipe Band maintains close ties with the local community. The Band is a regular participant in community events and performs throughout the year at numerous parades, charity fundraisers, local graduations, church events, concerts and festivals all over the New York tri state area. These include the March of Dimes, Relay for Life, and the world-famous St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City. The band also represents New York City and State at the top competitions in Eastern United States and Canada.
The Monaghan Pipe Band and the Martin Duffy Memorial Pipe Band are always seeking new talent, so if you are a novice piper or drummer, or a seasoned veteran, and wish to be part of the Monaghan tradition, come check us out. The Monaghan Grade 3 Band meets every Monday evening at Kelly Ryan's. The Martin Duffy Memorial Grade 4 band meets every Thursday at the Gerritsen Beach AOH Hall.
