About the Band
Monaghan is one of the oldest pipe bands in the United States, and
traces its origins back to 1929. The Band's mission is to promote
the public appreciation of playing pipes and drums through fellowship,
performance, competition, and continuous development of skills. The
Monaghan Pipe Band is a New York State incorporated and IRS recognized
tax exempt, not forprofit organization.The
Band endeavors to play bagpipes and drums at the highest possible
level of expertise at both the local and worldwide levels. To attain
these goals, the Band has an active, ongoing educational program providing
tuition in all facets of bagpiping and drumming.
The
Band and the Community
The Monaghan Pipe Band maintains close ties with the local community.
The Band is a regular participant in community events and performs
several dozen times each year at numerous parades, competitions, charitable
events, concerts and festivals throughout the entire New York tri
state area. The Band performs for numerous charitable events
including the March of Dimes and Relay for Life. The Band frequently
performs at local college graduations, parades, church events and
other local community activities.
The
Competition Circuit
The Grade 2 band is led by PM Joe Brady Jr and lead drummer Rich Janniello.
The Band also has an affiliated Grade 4 band, The Martin Duffy Memorial Pipe Band, which
is attracting some seasoned veterans as well as some up and coming youngsters that will be
the future of piping and drumming in the NYC metro area.
The 2008 contest schedule will be published soon , but look for the Bands to perform at every
local Grade 2 and Grade 4 event in the Eastern US. Wherever it travels, Monaghan proudly
represents New York City as "New York City's Premier Pipe Band." (tm)
