Pipe Major Joe Brady, Jr.
The Grade 2 Monaghan Pipe Band of NYC is pleased to announce that Joe Brady, Jr. will take
over as Pipe Major. Joe has been with Monaghan for about 5 years now, and brings with him
more than 4 decades of playing experience. Joe is a well known EUSPBA panel judge, and has
played with many bands over the years, including a long time stint with the Grade 1 Worcester
Kiltie Band back in the 70s and 80s. Joe will be taking over from Tom Hoins who has brought
the band up from grade 5 to grade 2. Tom is still actively involved in the band and he and
others will assist Joe with this challenging role.

Update
Grade 2 Monaghan and Grade 4 Martin Duffy Pipe Bands are past the mid
way point of the 2006 competition season. Both bands are fielding some
newer players in their ranks this year and have revised their repertoires,
but results have generally been satisfactory so far. The 2006 year sees
both bands attending more contests to gain valuable experience for their
members.
The Martin Duffy Grade 4 band got out first at the Bonnie Brae contest
in NJ the first Saturday in June and received third place finishes from
3 of the 4 judges, and came in fourth overall. Their next outing was
at the NJ Irish festival on June 25th where they received a second from
one of the piping judges.

Norwalk Connecticut on July 1st coming in second place overall. The
Martin Duffy band also placed second at this contest.
Monaghan traveled to the Glasgowlands Festival in Massachusetts on July
15th where they played against just about every other Grade 2 band in
the Eastern US. The next day saw both bands in action at the Rockland
Feis in Rockland NY where both bands debuted their new medleys for 2006.
The Martin Duffy Band placed third overall, and Monaghan came in fourth
in Grade 2.

placing 2nd overall, including a strong second place in drumming and
Martin Duffy coming in 6th Monaghan also played in a second MSR only
contest and came in second.
Monaghan’s next outing will be at the Capital District Contest
over Labor Day weekend, which includes the 2006 Grade 2 EUSPBA Championship
Contest. Monaghan will also be competing at the prestigious Celtic Classic
